HISTORY |
|
|
The late 1800's were booming times for Northern California.
Abundant rail lines formed a natural feeder to the growing
Southern Pacific. The steep shallow canyons of the Areas Rivers
proved difficult to conquer but the determination of the builders
were uncompromising. The hard labor and poor supply line
took it's toll on the men but the railroad forged on.

GOTHAM RAIL |
|
| In 2002 the Shasta Pacific was sold
to Gotham Rail. Pictured here is the Mary Lake Local which services customers from Shasta City to
Mary Lake. Traffic on the line is very healthy
with lumber, grain, heating fuel products and intermodal. A sizeable
highway to rail transload facility bolsters the terminal at Mary Lake.
Brisk interchange still exists with both class ones as well as the
McCloud Railway.
